Holland speed skates (3)
Fig.1: Holland speed skates, around 1900
Collectors call this model 'Ameider clogs'. The name comes from Ameide a little village near Leerdam. At present the word 'clog' is only used for 'wooden shoes' but formerly it indicated any wooden subject used to be attached to the feet. The model in all respects is characterized by the heavy execution. Ameider clogs always have a bit retarded necks and brass finials (detail 1a). The shown skates have been made suitable for the Dutch Roll in that the blades were grinded with a rather small radius.
